A Magnificent Stone Head of Louhan of 13th Century


Description: A magnificent stone head of Louhan( or Lokapala ) was from 13th century.
Unearthed from a relics of a temple near Shichuan, this head piece was preserved very well with original red mineral pigment and gold leaf.
In an awesome facial expression, the Budhist saint was rendered finely in the features and showing a strong form that was unusually seen in the Chinese traditional sculptures.
A custom made black marble stand was included.

Date: Southern Song to Yuan Dynasty(12th-13th Century)

Material: Red sandstone.

Height: 23cm (without stand)
